Why I Started WANUI
I started WANUI because I believe craft has much to offer the future.
Behind handmade objects are skilled makers, individual stories, and knowledge passed down through generations. I want to bring their work to more people and help create opportunities for these skills to thrive.
For craft to continue, it needs a meaningful place in people’s lives. That means respecting what has been inherited while exploring how it can meet changing needs—and inspire new ones. WANUI’s mission is to work alongside makers to reach new audiences, explore new possibilities for their craft, and help their skills carry forward to the next generation.
As AI and robots take on more of the work people do, I believe the human presence behind handmade objects will become even more meaningful: the experience, decisions, and care of the person who made them.
I also believe our desire to create will remain. Making music, painting, writing, or shaping something with our hands brings a joy worth carrying into the future. Keeping craft alive means keeping that possibility open for the next generation.
Through WANUI, I envision a future where craft and human creativity continue to thrive, bringing joy to the people who make things and to those who welcome them into their lives.
That is why I started WANUI.
